This week’s Jaunted Field Trip is coming from Rome! Got a question about the Eternal City? Let us know in the comments section below!

Visiting the Trevi Fountain is always at the top of the “Things to See in Rome” list–especially since a popular tourist legend has it that if you throw a coin in the fountain, with your back to the fountains, it means someday you’ll return.

But since last June, the fountain was drained for extensive renovation, and (gasp!) coin tossing has been strictly forbidden. So when will the fountain open and when can coin tossing resume?

It’s a little bit hard to tell. Initially, the completion date was set for next month, but now there are reports it won’t reopen again until the fall, after the crush of summer tourists. The restoration will cost over 2 million Euros and is being financed by the Fendi fashion house. #WheninRome.

However, there is a silver lining for tourists– the fountain isn’t closed.
